As you all know we are currently studying all things related to water for science. We have covered the water cycle and where water goes when it goes down drains; we are now working on conservation. The students’ homework over the up-coming weekend is to monitor the water used by their entire family for one whole day. Students took notes in class on what they need to keep track of. (examples: brushing teeth, taking a bath, using the dishwasher, etc.) We discussed a couple of different strategies that could be used. Students can tape a piece of paper near the shower (and all other water sites), and every time someone takes a shower they can put a tally on the sheet. Or students can carry the log around all day and record all of the information themselves. Perhaps each family member can carry a log to tally their own water use.
Tonight students need to plan a strategy with you. The entire family needs to understand what the strategy is going to be. The students will be telling me what their plan is (due tomorrow, Friday the 26th). They then need to implement the strategy over the weekend to tally an entire day’s worth of water usage for the family.
If you have any confussion about this, please send me a blog comment or email and I well get back to you quickly. Hopefully everyone will have it all figured out before the weekend so it runs smoothly and the data is fairly accurate.
GOOD LUCK AND THANK YOU!
Warmly,
Ms. Bennon
