First Grade News

Hello!

The first graders had a fun week with some special vistors from the Pima County Parks and Recreation. They learned about the watershed and participated in a experiment that allowed them to experience watersheds firsthand! They also had a poet come to the class to talk about poetry as it relates to nature and water conservation. This visitor will come again on Monday to complete the lesson on poetry. You will soon receive a permission form to allow your child to further participate in this program called the River of Words. With your permission your child’s poem will be submitted and will possibly be chosen to have his/her poem published! This is a wonderful program that first grade has participated in for many years. In addition, we reviewed 3 of the 6 traits of writing which included ideas, word choice and mechanics. We read two books to illustrate these concepts. The first one was Something From Nothing. The second was The Magic Porridge Pot. Ask your child to tell you about these stories! The First graders finally finished The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. It was such a pleasure to share this fabulous story with your children. We are now reading Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

This Friday the class went to the computer lab to learn how to log on to Truflix. Please take some time to look at the websites the school has made available to your children. It’ s truly like having a library in your home!

Finally, I would love to meet with any of you who would like to discuss how to study the spelling words so that your child can be more successful with the tests. I can be available at your convenience. Please feel free to call me or send me an email anytime. I truly appreciate your feedback, and I’m happy with the great progress we’re making together!

2011 Arizona Tax Credit

KEEP YOUR TAX DOLLARS
IN THE TUCSON COMMUNITY

DeskMarried couples can donate up to $400 , and single people can   donate up to $200 to help Carden of Tucson and help yourself.  Arizona Tax Law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows taxpayers to make a donation to support local schools.  Proposition 301 increased the maximum contribution amount to $400.  Carden needs your support to assist us in subsidizing field trips and other student activities..  Tax credits help provide music for the band and other programs.  Your tax credit dollars would enable us to complete many extra curricular  projects.   Please help.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Museum TripOur teachers have planned many fun and exciting field trips this year, and admission costs, etc. can be very expensive.  The tax credit funds provide the necessary money for these trips, as well as for the costs of special programs such as this year’s Constitution Program.Transportation

When several classes go on the same field trip, it is helpful to arrange transportation for the entire group by chartered buses.  Tax credits make this possible, as well.

Local School — Local Support

You do not need to have a child in the school to support our efforts.   Please tell grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, and work associates about this great opportunity to directly support our school with their donations. Keep your tax dollars in our own community and support our children.

How the Arizona Tax Credit Works

Zoo TripContributions to Carden have always been tax deductible.  A tax credit allows you to subtract the amount of your contribution from the amount you owe to the State of Arizona on your income tax form — up to $400 for married couples & $200 for a single person.  A tax credit is a full refund of your money.  Donations must be received at the school by December 31, 2011.  Please remember that the office will be closed after December 17, 2011.

Contributions can be made at any time during the year.  We accept any amount and multiple payments.  So if you do not have all the funds now, send us a little at a time.  Some employers match contributions to schools.  Your donation could be worth twice as much.

Carden Students Compete in Soccer and Volleyball

For the first time, Carden of Tucson elementary students are competing after school in   soccer. Middle school students are competing in volleyball.  When Coach Hendricks announced to the school that he would be starting teams to compete in YMCA sponsored soccer and volleyball leagues, the teams filled quickly. Both teams meet after school and compete weekly.  We are so proud of our volleyball and soccer players.  Good luck for a fun and successful season!
