We have just completed our fifth week of school. Yeah!!! That means progress reports are being sent out. I will be sending mine out next Monday, August 29. Please be on the lookout for them. Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents,

As I have been grading the student’s work I have noticed a great deal of papers being turned in without names on the papers. My policy is to give them the first quarter to get used to writing their names on their papers. After that, if a paper does not have a name on it, the papers will be recycled with no credit. Please discuss this with your children. They are aware of the policy, but I was hoping if you also discussed this with them, they might get a full understanding of it. Hello parents.

Next Friday, August 19, the fifth grade class will be conducting the opening. We will be starting promptly at 8:15. Please make sure that your child is at the school by 8:05.

Just a reminder that this coming Monday evening is Back to School Night here at Carden. This is a great time to see your child’s  classroom, look through their textbooks and  meet me. The fun begins at 6:30 pm. I am looking forward to seeing you all here.  We have made it through the second week of school unscathed. Just remember it takes 21 days for something to become a habit. We are well on our way!!! Yeah.

On Wed., August 3, a Scholastic Book Order went home with the children. The deadline for these orders is Friday, August 12. If you want to order books, please fill out the form and send either check or cash to the classroom.  Checks should be made out to Scholastic. This is a great opportunity to get some books for required book reports.

Good afternoon parents,

Just wanted to let you all know that we will be having our first History test next Thursday, August 11. Your children will receive a study guide on Thursday, August 4 to work on. This gives them all a week to prepare.  Good luck guys.

I will be available after school on Mondays from 3:15-4:00pm to help the students if there is a need with any trouble they are having in class. Please note this service is only on a need basis. This is not to be used as an after-school program. If you feel that your child needs help, contact me at school to set up a schedule.

Each child needs to read five books (100 pages or more) each quarter. After reading the book, a book report needs to be filled out and turned in. Each report counts for 10 points towards the student’s reading grade. The book must be approved by me and I must see the child reading part of that book during quiet reading time in class. Students are allowed to take the book home to read, but I need to see them working on it in class also.
