Before coming to Carden, Mrs Sandra Yecies taught in New Jersey, where she managed summer school programs, and edited, formatted, and distributed a 10 page classroom newspaper, the “ET NEWS” for the entire school. She is a life member of the New Jersey Literacy and New Jersey Reading Council.Mrs Yecies has taught at Carden since 1999. During that time, she has taken training classes every year on such varied topics as Carden training, blood-born pathogens, Essential Elements of Instruction, Effective Classroom Discipline, The Citizen and the Constitution, and many others. She has served on the Policy Committee, Teacher handbook Committee, No Child Left Behind Committee, and numerous others. She has mentored many teachers and student teachers , and parents. She also adapted and directed over 20 plays for 2nd and 3rd graders.
Some of the many activities planned for Carden 2nd graders this year include two major subjects of study, birds, and trees, culminating in a written project and a 3-D project for each. Two interesting bird presentations include that by the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and that of the Tohono Chul Park. She has planned a trip to the theater for a storybook production, and has been in charge the Fire Department “mini muster”, an educational, interactive,and entertaining fire and life safety event for 2nd graders.
