Mrs. Timpone is designated as the 6th grade teacher, but her primary teaching responsibility is science for grades 6, 7, and 8. She has been working at Carden for 12 years. She has her Masters in Elementary Education with both New York State and Arizona State teaching certificates. She loves science and provides the children with many hands-on scientific activities in the areas of life science, earth science, and physical science. She also is the coordinator for the Carden School Science Fair, in which all students in grades 3 through 8 participate by selecting a project, completing the project, and displaying it on a display board to be judged by knowledgeable members of the community. The children become well versed in the scientific method by the end of the project.
Mrs. Timpone enjoys reading, gardening, and bike riding.
First Semester activities in each class involve active participation. Such activities include:
8th Grade – In Biological Science the students test food samples for lipids and starches, two compounds that are found in cells. As the students study cells and genetics they are involved in different hands-on activities, including making diagrams and illustrations.
7th Grade – In Earth Science the students study earthquakes, which have a role in the formation of our landforms. Student handmade stick “buildings: will be tested to see if they are earthquake-proof.
6th Grade - In Physical Science the students learn about energy conversion and use formulas to solve a variety of problems.
