I have taught at Carden since it opened in 1980 except for a few years when my children were young. I have taught most of the grades but the majority of my years have been in Third Grade. Because of this experience I understand how the Carden curriculum develops and interrelates from year to year. I try to create a fun and loving feeling in my class where students feel comfortable and are encouraged to learn.
The Third Grade motto is “Third Grade is the BEST!” We talk and decide what we need to do to make Third Grade the best. I put an emphasis on math, spelling and reading.
During the year we study about Native Americans. The students receive an overview of many of the traditional Native American tribes. At the end of the year we have a Pow Wow. Each student represents a different tribe. We have dinner for the students and their family, the students put a program on for their parents, then the parents leave and the students play games and have competitions like the Native American children might have had. This is the culminating activity for the year.
