Education as a Character Trait

Contact Mrs. Livingood – Seventh Grade

I Attended Interlochan Arts Academy  for High School. I Graduated from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts in 2007, with a Bachelors of Arts in Modern European History and Music History.  Right after that, in June of 2007,  I started teaching at Carden of Tucson.  I took and passed the state mandated tests in professional knowledge of secondary education, and Social Studies, enabling me to be designated as a “Highly Qualified teacher”.

My hobbies are reading, politics, running, yoga, cooking, history, studying, teaching, and spending time with my dogs, Berlin and Lucy, and with my wonderful  husband.

I teach  Seventh grade homeroom, middle school Social Studies, and grades 5 through 8 French.

I come from a long line if educators.  Most of my childhood memories take place in my father’s classroom.  It was a place where I could explore, create, and grow. As a teacher it is my hope that each one of my students is able to experience this same opportunity at Carden and in the seventh grade classroom.

Social Studies is a wonderful time to explore other cultures and places. We are able to realize more about our great country and how we can participate in a global community.  In all of the social studies classes we spend time looking at the past, hoping to create a positive and intelligent future.  The goal of Social Studies is to learn from other countries and our own using the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States in hopes that each student will come to a better understanding of our natural Rights and abilities and be able to share that aspect of American Culture with others.

French is a beautiful language. I started learning French at a very young age.  When I was in middle school, my parents provided me with the opportunity of living in Belgium and study French.  I participated in French classes all throughout high school and into college.   I love being able to communicate in another language and the increased vocabulary I have because of it.  My goal as a French teacher is not, necessarily, to make sure my students become fluent, although it is certainly a priority.  I hope, instead, to open the amazing world of linguistics to my students so that they can feel confident in expressing their thoughts and ideals in creative and different ways.

I believe, with all my heart, in the importance of a solid education.  Not as a means to an end or for a profitable result, but as the means in which a person is shaped and encouraged to grow in their effectiveness of creating a more just and compassionate world.
