End of First Quarter ~

September 21,2015

Our First Quarter has come to an end with great progress in all subject areas.
We will bring forth the Second Quarter with many new challenges!
The focus unit will be Trees: Deciduous Trees and Conifer Trees.
We will begin learning about trees in great depth the week of September 21, 2015 through November 20th, 2015. The students are required to do an at home Tree Report and it is due November 16th, 2015. I will be demonstrating/teaching how to write their tree report. Each student will be given a Tree Report templet. A 3-D model is optional. PLEASE DO NOT complete tree report over Fall Break, allow them to explore and learn about many types of trees before choosing a tree. We will be doing our in class Tree Report on the Sugar Maple Tree. Please do not choose the Sugar Maple as their at home Tree Project. Our class will be attending a field trip to the Tucson Botanical Gardens on Friday, November 6, 2015, 9:00 – 12:30 p.m. We do have enough driver chaperones for Botanical Garden Field Trip.

Our class could use a volunteer to help keep the class bathroom clean. Please volunteer upon your convenience, you are welcome any time. We are running very low on class treats for the treat box. I think creating reasonable creative coupons works for me 🙂 10 minutes free reading to the class, or 10 minutes in game drawer, or 10 minutes drawing time… I f someone would create coupon I will run it off on colored paper.

I will begin Grade 2 Reading Club Wednesday, October 14th, 2015 from 3:15 – 3:50 p.m. Please fill out attached permission slip and return Tuesday September 22, 2015. There are several websites available to support Reading Comprehension, and Fluency. Ask your child to demonstrate Reading Eggs. Reading Eggs requires your child’s login name and password, which they do have on a slip of paper. On October 1, 2015 our class will participate in Book It, a National Reading Program Launch . This 6 month reading program motivates students to read their heart out with reading frequently with accuracy.

We are currently practicing a play called “Autumn Leaves”; by Mae Carden. I will keep you posted on the date your child will be performing.

Have a Healthy Fall Break 🙂
Thank you for all you support,
Ms. Nichols
