Special Education Teacher- Mrs. Clarissa Reyes:
I am so excited to be a part of the Carden family this year as a Special Education teacher. In 2013, I graduated from the University of Arizona with my teaching degree in cross categorical special education. Post graduation, I spent time teaching for Amphitheatre Public Schools. However, the most formative years in my teaching experience were homeschooling. I'm so excited to partner with the Carden community in educating your children (and mine!) this year.

Special Education Teacher- Ms. Sara Ranney:
Sara has been in Tucson for 3 years and brings some East Coast energy to the team! Sara has worked in a large facet of jobs with children. She has been a 4th and 5th grade SPED resource teacher in the Gwinnett County Public School system in Atlanta, as well as a SPED aid in a specialized non-verbal school in Atlanta called the Hirsch Academy, where she was trained in the Spellboard Method. Sara also spent 3 years of her career fundraising for public elementary schools in Georgia. In her early years she was a children's swim coach and camp counselor for over 8 years. She loves children and believes they are the truth holders!
September 13, 2024

We are quickly approaching an important day in the history of the United States: Constitution Day. On September 17th, we celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. This day reminds us of the significance of our nation's founding document and the rights and responsibilities it grants to all citizens.

Carden of Tucson has a long tradition of celebrating Constitution Day, dating back to 1982. Mrs. Jeppson, the founder of Carden of Tucson, embraced this tradition after President Reagan proclaimed Constitution Week. President Reagan believed that observing this historic document encourages citizens to understand and appreciate their constitutional rights and responsibilities.

At Carden of Tucson, students deepen their understanding of the Constitution through songs and dances, led by Mr. Claridge. I’m excited to see their performances on September 21st. Please invite friends and family to join us in celebrating this special occasion.

Important Dates:
  • Lockdown Drill: September 16th (Please see information below)
  • Pizza Lunch: September 18th
  • PTO Meeting: September 18th @3:30
  • Constitution Program: September 21st
Weekly Tip for Supporting Students:
Each week, we will share a tip to help you support your child's learning journey.

Week 10 Tip: Encourage Active Reading Teach your child to engage with the text by highlighting key points, taking notes, or summarizing each chapter. Encourage them to jot down unfamiliar words or ideas and look them up together. This strategy, known as "active reading," helps students better understand and retain the material. It also fosters curiosity and deeper thinking about the text.

Lockdown drills play a critical role in school safety, ensuring both students and staff are prepared in the event of an emergency, such as an intruder or other dangerous situations. Here are some key reasons why they are important:
  1. Preparedness: Lockdown drills equip students with a clear understanding of what to do during emergencies. Knowing the procedures reduces panic and confusion, enabling quick, organized action.
  2. Safety First: Practicing these drills helps minimize risks and increase the likelihood of protecting students and staff. Drills foster habits that can save lives, just like fire drills do.
  3. Reduced Anxiety: Although emergencies can be frightening, regular drills allow students to feel more confident and calmer in stressful situations. The more familiar they are with the steps, the less likely they are to feel overwhelmed.
  4. Quick Response Time: During a real lockdown, time is of the essence. Drills help everyone respond rapidly and appropriately, which can be crucial to preventing harm.
  5. Collaboration and Communication: These drills encourage teamwork and help ensure that students know how to communicate calmly with teachers and follow instructions closely.
While it’s a challenging subject, the practice reinforces the importance of safety and preparedness, empowering students to act swiftly and responsibly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,
Beth Anderson- Carden Director
