Christmas 2020

As we go on Christmas break we know some families may travel or see family members that you haven't been with. Please email the office if you or anyone in your family gets sick over break. Help us keep everyone safe for our return to school on January 4th.

Suggestions for Teachers, Parents and Kids of all ages

by Mrs. Mollie Hunter, Speech Pathologist.

These online sites are recommended to you because I have used them with children and have found them to be fun, valuable, interesting and FREE!

1. Storyline Online :   https://www.storylineonline.net/library/   Readers include Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine, Kristen Bell, Rita Moreno, Viola Davis, Jaime Camil, Kevin Costner, Lily Tomlin, Sarah Silverman, Betty White, Wanda Sykes and dozens more.  Excellent choices of stories; find stories of varying interests and ages.

Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading. Teachers use Storyline Online in their classrooms, and doctors and nurses play Storyline Online in children’s hospitals.

Storyline Online is available 24 hours a day for children, parents, caregivers and educators worldwide. Each book includes supplemental curriculum developed by a credentialed elementary educator, aiming to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills for English-language learners.

Storyline Online is a program of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization that relies entirely on gifts, grants and donations to fund Storyline Online and produce all of its videos. SAG is the Screen Actors Guild.

2. Art For Kids : Wonderful instruction about how to draw hundreds, maybe thousands, of things. Batman, owls, parrots, snow globes, Legos people,  bikes, buildings, etc. The Teacher is a man who really excels at teaching drawing….and in encouraging kids to learn to be artists. I LOVE this website! https://www.artforkidshub.com/ (art for kids hub)His children appear with him and he instructs them how to follow his directions, all the while demonstrating each move that he makes…as he also praises the child and makes the gentlest and kindest of suggestions.  He is on the internet and YouTube. I think you will love this fellow and your kids will love his teaching skills. Good instruction, good demos, good outcomes! Fun!

3. The Guttenberg Project was created several years ago to preserve books which people love but which are no longer “in print”.  For Fun and For  FREE.  Free EBook and Free Audio Books, mostly for adults or older teens https://www.gutenberg.org/ Many wonderful selections.
