Welcome Christmas season!

We’re so glad you’re here! The time to be with family and loved ones, to celebrate holiday traditions, to make new family traditions, to exchange gifts, to focus on the blessings around us. And the time to SING!!!

I’ve noticed in the last several years that many people don’t really know or participate in singing the beautiful carols of Christmas. (Playing holiday music on the radio in the car doesn’t count!) Part of our Christmas heritage are the lovely carols of the season: Deck the Halls, Joy to the World, Oh Come all ye Faithful, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, and even The Twelve Days of Christmas!  And there are lots more...

So, I have a couple of challenges for you as a family (dare I say it’s Holiday Homework? :-) )

1. Find recordings of your favorite Christmas songs (Spotify, Youtube, whatever….) and sing them in the car with your kids. Learn the words if you don’t know them. Have each member of the family pick a favorite and learn it together as a family. Then sing it! The louder and merrier the better!

2. Using your imagination and creativity, find supplies around the house and make your own holiday orchestra to accompany your favorite songs. The young ones in the family will especially enjoy this one! (Moms and Dads can wear ear muffs!)

Go caroling! (Yes, this is a real thing!) Grab other friends or family members to join you, pick 2 or 3 of your favorite songs, go to other family members’ or friends’ homes, Sing at the top of your lungs with gusto and joy (you may need to knock on the door to get their attention), and watch what happens - when you and the receivers all share the joys of the season through beautiful music. Believe me, your children will love and remember the fun experience for many years to come!

Merry Christmas!  Happy Holidays!  Happy singing!!!!
