Week of Oct. 12 – 16

Welcome back!  I hope you had an enjoyable Fall Break and are all ready to get second quarter underway!

This quarter we will be starting Reading Logs.  These will go home on Mondays and need to be returned the following Monday.  I would like each student to read for 20 minutes a night.  If they return their reading logs completely filled in each week of the month they will earn a coupon for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut through the Book-It program.  They will also receive a grade for completed reading logs.  Each night they read and fill in the required information they will receive 5 points making the entire log worth 25 points.

In addition to the reading logs the students will need to complete a book report this quarter.  This will be a traditional style book report and the final copy will need to be typed.  We will be discussing formatting in class.  More information on this will be forthcoming.

On Friday the 16th I will be sending home information for the Science Fair project.  Please read through the entire packet with your student and make note of the various due dates.  I will do my best to send reminders a few days before things are due but the students are responsible for keeping track.  This is a major part of their science grade 2nd and 3rd quarter.  If there are any questions either myself or Ms. Bennon can answer.

Spelling homework is changing slightly this quarter.  It will now be worth 20 points!  The menu has choices which indicate how many points each activity is worth and your student needs to choose enough activities to reach 20 points.  Failure to complete spelling homework will have a serious impact on the spelling grade.  I was lenient 1st quarter but will not be quite so lenient 2nd quarter.  By now the students should know the routine of doing math and spelling homework each night.
