This class is open to parents of Carden students. It is geared towards 8th grade parents so that they can become familiar with the curriculum used in the 8th grade Holocaust unit. All parents, faculty and staff are welcome.
Over the last five years Mrs. Livingood has worked to create an in-depth holocaust curriculum geared towards 8th graders. She has worked closely with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Jewish Education Federation of Tucson, attending numerous seminars and conferences gaining insight from other educators around the nation. She also received her degree in Modern European History with an emphasis in Germany and Nazi Politics. All of these aspects are tied into this curriculum in an effort to promote justice with grace and political understanding.
Through this curriculum students are presented with the facts of the holocaust. They are asked to analyze and reflect on, not only on the horrors of the victims but also perpetrators, resisters, and bystanders. Primary sources are used but every effort is made to make sure age appropriate sources are used.
If you are interested in attending the 60 minute intro class for parents please contact Mrs. Livingood at mrslivingood@gmail.com.
Students are not allowed to attend class and this is NOT a requirement for 8th graders!
On Thursday, April 5th beginning at 1:30 PM the winners of the Old Pueblo DAR Essay contest will read their essays to the student body, faculty, and parents.
After the essay winners have completed reading their essays, the 8th grade will give us a report on their Trip to DC.
Everyone is invited!
